Tester Technician (Salem, NH)

The core responsibilities of this position are to execute confidence testing on Biotage instrumentation for internal and external customers along with contributing to production efforts by building sub-assemblies, accessory kits and service kits to support Biotage instrumentation to meet production schedules and customer sales orders on a daily basis.

Essential Job Duties 

  • Verify operational performance of Biotage instrumentation using test documentation
  • Collection, data entry and timely reporting of all required information associated with final testing of Biotage instrumentation
  • Support Production by building assemblies and products as assigned in periods of high demand
  • Meet established build times and productivity targets as defined
  • Completion of work in an efficient and timely manner and held to high quality standards and zero defects 
  • Effectively manage assigned inventory and tools, keeping both well organized and accurately reported. (5S experience is helpful)
  • Professionally represent the organization to achieve a positive image
  • Ensure clear and effective communication with both internal and external customers
  • Occasionally assist warehouse staff with inventory management activities during spikes and/or short staffing issues
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Scope of Responsibility

  • High quality and timely execution of final test functions of Biotage instrumentation – ensure systems are complete, pass all necessary tests, and are ready for movement to shipping along with the processing of paperwork
  • Communicate any issues found to management and others
  • High quality and timely execution of manufacturing work orders
  • Move quickly to achieve aggressive production demand

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • High school Diploma minimum – Technical school / Associates Degree preferred
  • Three or more years of electronic instrument/product assembly.
  • Three of more years of Product testing
  • Ability to troubleshoot instrumentation in a straight-forward, logical manner
  • Working knowledge of proper chemical and industrial hygiene
  • Ability to read assembly drawings, work instructions, test procedures and work from verbal instructions 
  • Knowledge on how to build instruments utilizing parts and sub-assemblies
  • Ability to work with printed Circuit Boards (handling and installation)
  • Ability to juggle multiple activities in parallel and redirect to urgent issues
  • Ability to communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical individuals
  • Proven ability to properly use basic hand tools, wrenches, screwdrivers, hex wrenches, digital volt meters, test equipment, etc.….
  • Military service/experience a strong positive


  • Language Ability: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Math Ability: Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance. 
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software and Database software with a Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite of products, especially Excel.

Education and Experience

  • High school Diploma minimum – Technical school / Associates Degree preferred

Physical Demands

  • The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands hold and position parts
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit, talk and hear.
  • The employee is required to drive and maintain a valid Driver’s License

Work Environment

  • Light industrial and office environment: the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock.
  • This is a Salem, NH facility-based position. No travel required
