    Vapor Shield for Biotage® Horizon 5000 Disk Extraction System

    Safety is always a prime consideration in a laboratory. While working with organic solvents and samples that may contain harmful analytes, it makes sense to shield the operator from hazardous conditions whenever possible.SPE-DEX5000

    The SPE-DEX 5000 Extraction System uses organic solvents such as dichloromethane, hexane and methanol and vapors are vented through the back of the instrument to a convenient hood or exhaust mechanism. Some laboratories choose to place their extractors in the hood for further safe venting of the solvent vapors.
    The Horizon Technology Vapor Shield provides further safety by shielding the front of the extractor (Figure 1).

    Possible splashing of sample or solvent is contained, preventing exposure of the operator to these materials. In addition the small amount of solvent vapor that may
    escape from controlled venting is redirected away from the operator.

    The Vapor Shield is also used in conjunction with the optional nitrogen blanket to shield the sample on the disk from oxygen during loading and elution, minimizing oxidation.
