Biotage is a global technology-based company that offers a broad range of instrumentation, consumable products, and technical expertise in the areas of Analytical Sample Preparation and Synthetic Organic Chemistry. Customers include research scientists at pharmaceutical and biotech companies, food and agriculture, personal care, fine chemical companies and scientists at major academic and government life science research centers.


We are seeking a Financial Analyst to be responsible for all accounting, analysis, reporting, and business support associated with inventory, cost of goods, deferred revenue, commissions and other ad hoc projects.  This role requires a high degree of analytical ability in order to both effectively and efficiently support functional business owners.

Essential Job Duties

  • Inventory
    • Ensure accurate recording of all inventory/COGS transactions for raw, WIP, finished goods, and demo inventory
    • Participate on cross functional teams to drive process improvements such as accuracy and business controls
    • Coordinate and lead periodic inventory counts in all areas including trunk stock, demo inventory, consignment inventory, etc.
    • Proactively develop analytics to support better understanding of inventory to help enhance decision making
    • Responsible for analyzing, recording and reporting inventory reserve
  • Reporting
    • Prepare internal financial statements and departmental reports accurately and according to published deadlines (i.e., warranty costs, inventory analysis, financial statements, etc.)
    • Prepare monthly/quarterly presentations for Director Review; lead regular discussions of actual to budget performance
    • Proactively work with department heads to develop additional analytics that are meaningful to the business
  • Deferred Revenue
    • Review all revenue activity to ensure proper revenue recognition per GAAP
    • Properly record service contract revenue and provide analysis
  • General Accounting
    • Assist in monthly, quarterly and year end closing activities within the required deadlines, which includes tasks/analysis such as journal entries, account reconciliations, etc.
    • Assist in interim and year-end audit; proactively prepare audit schedules
    • Serve as back-up to other accounting staff within area of expertise during absences
  • Other
    • Calculate commission accruals monthly and propose final payout with commentary
    • Work on ad hoc projects in areas such as inventory control, service and warranty accounting
    • Establish and maintain systems and controls, which ensure the integrity of all systems, processes and data, and enhance the Company's value
    • Responsible for analyzing and recording warranty reserve
    • Assist in development of annual budget

Knowledge/Skills/Experience/Education Requirements

To perform this job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:

  • Four-year degree from an accredited college or university in accounting. 
    • Desired candidate would have four-year degree in accounting with a concentration/certificate in Business Analytics and/or CPA
  • At least 2 years demonstrated experience in auditing, budget analysis or transactional accounting role (preferably related to inventory/COG’s/financial reporting)
  • Ability to communicate complex GAAP issues and advise of next course of action
  • General business acumen with the ability to identify areas opportunities
  • Effectively and efficiently support functional leaders with data analysis (detailed and summarized in the most appropriate format for the topic)
  • Demonstrated advanced skills utilizing Microsoft excel
  • Ability to communicate effectively (both verbally and in writing) with a broad range of roles

Physical Demands

Work Environment

Office based in a cubicle; the noise level in the work environment is usually low-moderate.
